Chinese Shadow Play
Shadow play, also known as shadow puppetry, is an ancient storytelling and entertainment art form. It uses flat, articulated figures (shadow puppets) to create cut-out shapes that are placed between a light source and a translucent screen or scrim. The puppets' cut-out designs may include translucent colors or intricate details. Various effects can be achieved by moving both the puppets and the light source, allowing a skilled puppeteer to make the figures appear to walk, dance, fight, nod, and laugh.
This Shanghai-based group specializes in Chinese Shadow Play and has over 20 years of experience performing across China. Their mission is to promote traditional Chinese culture to younger generations outside of China. Performed by a highly skilled puppeteer, this shadow play is extremely popular in Shanghai and offers unique traditional Chinese entertainment.
