A BAFTA award-winning wildlife expert, Steve Backshall is renowned for inspiring audiences of all ages with his passion for the natural world, and his love for adventure and challenge.

His work has seen him cover some of the most incredible regions and events on the planet, including Blue Planet Live (BBC One), Deadly Dinosaurs and Monster Mountain (CBBC), the hugely successful Wild Alaska Live (BBC One, PBS), and Hedgehog A&E with Brian May (Channel 5). He garnered critical acclaim for his canoeing expedition on the Baliem River in New Guinea in Down The Mighty River with Steve Backshall (BBC Two). He also appeared in the two-part series Extreme Mountain Challenge (BBC Two) and Fierce (ITV). In 2016, Steve co-hosted Big Blue Live (BBC One, PBS) from Monterey, California. He also ventured on an expedition to Venezuela for the BBC and appeared on Strictly Come Dancing (BBC One).

His 'Deadly' TV franchise - which won him the BAFTA in 2011 -  sees him tracking down some of the world's deadliest wildlife. He has also starred in Killer Crocs with Steve Backshall and Ice Age: A Frozen Planet (Channel 5), which he co-hosts with Michaela Strachan.

Steve's latest series of his beloved show Deadly 60 (CBBC) aired in September 2024, continuing his quest to track down the world’s most dangerous wildlife. His more extreme adventures include Lost Land of the Tiger, Lost Land of the Volcano, and Lost Land of the Jaguar (BBC One). He explored a sinkhole in Expedition Borneo (BBC One), an Emmy-nominated epic, and trekked through America's most rugged terrain in Expedition Alaska (Discovery). Back in the UK, this passionate naturalist has presented Britain’s Lost World, Extreme Caving, Inside Out, The One Show, The Nature of Britain, and The Really Wild Show.
