Kate Bellingham - TV Presenter
Following her graduation with a degree in physics from the University of Oxford, this host, emcee and public speaker started as a computer programmer before training as an audio engineer for the BBC, completing her training programme in the 1990s. An advocate for further education, Kate decided to continue her studies, being awarded an MSc in Electronic Communication Systems by the University of Hertfordshire in 2003 and beginning a PhD course in 2020. Kate is a popular proponent of women in engineering and works with many groups to encourage girls from all backgrounds to follow this career path.
As well as her considerable success behind the camera, Kate also attracted attention at the BBC for her relaxed but professional presenting style. A skill which she has since transferred to her keynote speeches at corporate events. Originally spotted after she took part in a series of engineering lectures for schools, she gained particular recognition for her BBC School series 'Techno' where she was subsequently offered a prize in broadcasting and a role fronting the weekly live show Tomorrow’s World. Thanks to her aptitude for translating quite complex subjects into easy-to-follow and relatable ideas, she was then able to transition to hosting children’s ITV science programme ‘Big Bang’ and then Radio 5 Live’s ‘The Acid Test’.
Since her initial appearances on television in the 1990s, Kate has continued to feature as a reporter for the BBC, undertaking a 6 part documentary series in 2010 called the 'Museum of Life', which showcased the incredible work that goes on behind the scenes at the Natural History Museum. Boasting a natural and engaging presence on camera, Kate continues to present programmes for the BBC and is a frequent contributor to many news and current affairs programmes.
Drawing on her educational experiences, Kate is a popular champion for women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths careers. Whilst working at the BBC, she became heavily involved in the WISE Campaign and worked with a large network of clubs and schools as President of Young Engineers. In 2010, Kate was able to take her passion for propelling children's interest in STEM careers a step further when she was appointed as the National STEM Careers Coordinator for the Department of Children, Schools and Families. Kate's continued dedication to championing STEM opportunities for women has led Kate to collaborate with many organisations such as Young Engineers, the Women’s Engineering Society, the WISE Campaign, the Engineering Council and the Primary Science Teaching Trust, to name just a few.
As a captivating speaker and host, Kate is just as comfortable addressing CEOs, industry professionals and thought leaders in the corporate or educational world as she is talking to young people in schools, colleges and universities. Easily adapting her style to engage with her crowd, Kate is the perfect choice for a range of events and can be booked to speak on many topics surrounding education, technology and engineering.
