South West Jazz Band

This act provides the perfect background music for meals and drink receptions, but can also take on a more prominent role if needed. This saxophone-led group performs a sophisticated selection of jazz and swing standards, made famous by jazz legends such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and the Dave Brubeck Quartet. They play numerous songs from prominent songwriters of the 30s to the 50s, like Jimmy Van Heusen, George and Ira Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, and Cole Porter. With the Quartet, some well-chosen songs outside of jazz, played in a jazz style, are also possible.

They have been together since 2001, delivering top-quality jazz to a wide variety of audiences throughout the South West. Their performances range from intimate parties of just 20 people to large gatherings of over 500 people, at venues such as the English Riviera Centre, Powderham Castle, and the Imperial and Grand Hotels in Torquay.

Jazz Duo
The duo features Neil Maya on saxes and Tom Unwin on piano. Usually suited for smaller gatherings, Neil and Tom can perform a wide range of jazz and swing standards, including Latin numbers, to create a great atmosphere for your event. Neil and Tom can also play either classical music (usually with Neil playing clarinet) or jazz.

Jazz Trio
The trio includes Neil Maya on saxes, Tom Unwin on piano, and Kevin Sanders on double bass. This combination is ideal for venues of all sizes. The band can perform a broad spectrum of jazz and swing standards, including Latin numbers. They can also play some more funky numbers if required (Kevin can also play electric bass too).

Another trio lineup is available, featuring Neil Maya on saxes, Tom Unwin on piano, and the exquisite vocals of Annika Skoogh, one of the West Country's finest singers

Jazz Quartet
The Quartet comprises Neil Maya on saxes, Tom Unwin on piano, Kevin Sanders on double bass, and Nick Carter on drums. This combination is generally ideal for medium and large venues. Still capable of playing background music (Nick is very experienced at playing drums with brushes at a subtle volume), the band can perform a wide range of jazz and swing standards, including Latin numbers. They can also play well-chosen funky numbers and even a few soul and Motown classics too.
