Amit Patel & Kika
Amit, a highly accomplished trauma doctor, author, and independent consultant, faced a significant life challenge when he was diagnosed with keratoconus, a disease that led to his blindness. Amit gradually re-learned essential life skills, which he now teaches to others experiencing vision loss.
In 2015, he was paired with his guide dog, Kika. Amit's life took another turn when a video of both him and Kika being mistreated on the Underground went viral. Now, he attaches a Go-Pro camera to Kika, capturing a unique perspective of their daily travels and interactions. They share their experiences online, highlighting the challenges and encounters they face.
Amit is now a passionate advocate for accessibility, frequently appearing on national news channels and regularly contributing to BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio 4, and London Radio. He authored the book Kika & Me, detailing how his life changed and how Kika transformed his world for the better—an inspiring read for all!
Amit's positive attitude and unique story make him an exceptional public and keynote speaker. He has presented at conferences for numerous blue-chip companies, including American Express, AXA, the NHS, and Legal & General Investments.
