Jazz Band Shanghai

This Shanghai-based jazz band seamlessly blends live electronics with jazz improvisation, creating sound collages of samples, loops, and beats that merge with the live band for a dynamic and vibrant performance.

Inspired by the Norwegian electronic jazz scene, the band was founded by Atze Ton and originally formed in Munich, Germany. When Atze relocated to Shanghai at the end of 2010, he brought the project with him, soon collaborating with Toby Mak on trumpet and Nicholas McBride on drums, forming the core ensemble.

Since early 2013, the band's lineup also includes Mark Fitzgibbon on keys and Amine El Filali on vocals. The recent addition of Lv Jing on Erhu infuses a strong Chinese essence into their performances. With this lineup, the band secured 3rd place at the Cotai International Jazz & Blues Festival in Macau, held from October 11-13, 2013.
