Washington Jazz Band
This jazz Trio/Quartet has been an essential part of the Washington DC music scene for over 20 years, with long residencies at Cafe Lautrec, Utopia, Columbia Station, and Bossa Bistro. They perform a diverse range of Brazilian and American Jazz.
Their latest CD showcases the band's eclectic style, featuring a swing version of Carinhoso, a jazz trio interpretation of Jimi Hendrix, a ballad medley of Edu Lobo and Benny Goodman classics, and original compositions in choro, samba-breque, and jazz waltz styles.
Jazz keyboardist Wayne has played with renowned R&B groups such as The Coasters, The Shirelles, The Marvellettes, and Jimmy Norman. He was a keyboardist and composer for the '80s funk band "SKYY" from 1981 to 1989 and owns a gold record celebrating their hit album "Sky Line" on Salsoul Records. Originally from New York City, Wayne relocated to Washington in 1989, where he has been performing Brazilian and American Jazz ever since.
