Turning down the chance to play youth team football, Dan pursued journalism and gained experience on Sheffield student radio.
Since joining the BBC, Dan has continued to cover Wimbledon, The Grand National, Royal Ascot, The Derby, and the 6 Nations.
Dan has co-hosted the broadcaster's Open golf coverage for the past 10 years and was a vital part of the BBC's Olympic coverage.
Dan also hosts a football show on BBC World that reaches over 400 million homes every weekend.
He is also the author of 'Dan Walker's Thronkersaurus: Football’s Finest Tales' and his second book, 'Magic, Mud & Maradona'.

Dan Walker has been a prominent figure on one of the UK's top morning TV shows, BBC Breakfast, since 2016. He currently hosts the award-winning Football Focus on BBC One and frequently appears on Match of the Day. He has led coverage of numerous major sporting events such as The Grand National, Royal Ascot, Wimbledon, and The 6 Nations. He co-hosted the broadcaster's open golf coverage and played a significant role in BBC's Olympic coverage for London 2012 and Rio 2016. 
In 2018, Dan hosted the game show Chase the Case for BBC, and in 2019, he was invited by Comic Relief to help raise money by climbing Kilimanjaro, which culminated in the BBC One documentary Return to Kili.
A standout moment in Dan's career was when he was chosen to present A Royal Team Talk: Tackling Mental Health for BBC1 with HRH The Duke of Cambridge. He has also made recent appearances on shows such as The Chase, Countdown, hosted Songs of Praise, and featured on A Question of Sport.
