Sea Shanty Band
Devon's "original buoy band" was formed in 2007 to revive the maritime heritage of their home port. Dressed in early 19th-century merchantmen attire, they bring borrowed songs back to life on a tall ship's deck or in a dockside tavern. Their repertoire blends shanties sung with enthusiasm and forebitters delivered with emotion.
The Sea Shanty Band is increasingly in demand domestically and internationally and has performed on the main stage at several major UK folk music festivals. They've also appeared at Plymouth Pavilions, a nightclub in Soho, and many village halls.
They performed at the 2011 Tall Ships' Regatta in Waterford, Ireland, and at the 2012 Olympics in Weymouth. They will be playing the Tall Ships' again in 2014 at Falmouth.
The band is an award-winning shanty crew, having received the Stan Hugill Trophy for the "most authentic shanties" at the highly respected International Krakow Shanty Festival. In addition to Ireland and Poland, they have visited Germany and Holland and made several tours to France and Belgium.
They have appeared on national television and radio both in the UK and in Europe.
