Sea Shanty Band
Devon's "original buoy band" was formed in 2007 to revitalize the rich maritime heritage of their hometown port. Since then, they've traveled far and wide, dressed in early 19th-century merchantman attire, bringing borrowed songs back to tall ships' decks and dockside taverns. Their setlist combines lively shanties with soulful forebitters.
The Sea Shanty Band is increasingly sought after both domestically and internationally. They've headlined several major UK folk music festivals and performed at Plymouth Pavilions, a nightclub in Soho, and many village halls.
They played at the 2011 Tall Ships' Regatta in Waterford, Ireland, and at the 2012 Olympics in Weymouth. They are slated to perform again at the Tall Ships' in Falmouth in 2014.
The band is an award-winning shanty crew, having received the Stan Hugill Trophy for the "most authentic shanties" at the highly respected International Krakow Shanty Festival. Besides Ireland and Poland, they've also toured Germany and Holland and made several trips to France and Belgium.
They have appeared on national television and radio in both the UK and Europe.
