The pub quiz just got a boost with this highly interactive virtual music quiz featuring live music from a friendly host.

Accessible on major conferencing platforms, quizzes can run from 30 minutes to an hour. If you're short on time, or if internet connections are an issue, the quiz can be pre-recorded. Answers can either be read out at the end of the show or sent as a PDF to guests.

This is your special event, and the quizmaster will coordinate with you ahead of time to determine the tone, theme, and difficulty level of the questions. The fun rounds include:

Kazoozies At The Movies - A live performance round where our host plays a song made famous by a particular movie on a kazoo instead of singing. There are three points per question: the song title, the artist, and the movie name.

Gone in 60s - Using studio broadcasting software, the host shows images of famous people for less than a second, and guests have to identify who they saw. Each correct answer earns one point.

Lyric Splice - In this live performance round, one song's music plays while the lyrics of another song are sung. Your guests get one point each for the song title, the artist of the melody, plus the song title and the artist of the lyrics.

Dr Glitch - The audience hears a 'doctored' music sample – either reversed, pitch-shifted, or similar – making it hard to recognize the original. Guests need to name the artist and song, earning two points per question.

Face Swap - A picture of a celebrity's body with a different musical celebrity's face is displayed on the screen. Guests must identify both celebrities. Each correct answer is worth two points.

Trivial Teasers - These general knowledge questions, which often play on words from a musical topic, are usually interspersed throughout the quiz. For example, "It's been 14 years since Muse's single 'Starlight' peaked at number 13 in the UK charts. Can you tell me how long it's been since the starlight we see from the earth's nearest star was originally emitted?" (This is delivered with a 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' style musical bed). Each correct answer is worth one point.

Big Theme Mashup - The finale might be a two to three-minute mashup of songs all performed live, linked by a common theme which could be a word in the song titles, a shared nationality among the artists, a release year, etc. Guests must identify as many songs/artists as possible and figure out the theme. This round is often played twice.

The show concludes with the emcee revealing the answers. Guests can submit their responses via a Google Form as they go, or the host can review the answers. Alternatively, a colleague can check while the host announces the answers. This is great for clients who want to know the quiz winner immediately. Otherwise, guests mark their own answers. For large groups wanting accuracy, the host can play one or two bonus rounds like 'Fastest Finger First,' where snippets of songs suddenly stop, encouraging guests to quickly type the following lyric into the chat window. This allows time for colleagues to collect and review the answer data.

Want to go bigger? Upgrade your virtual event to a full band experience. Four skilled musicians play the clues live-streamed to your venue, and your guests can interact with the host and each other to guess the answers. Fun, engaging, and highly entertaining, the Virtual Music Quiz Night is a perfect addition to your online event.

FAQs

1. What is the setup?

The show is broadcast from a studio with professional lights and an audio mixing setup. There is one camera capable of capturing 4K, but for live streams, we prefer 1080p. The virtual quiz can stream on Zoom, MS Teams, or Google Hangouts. However, our artist has noted that sound quality is slightly worse on Zoom.

Your emcee for the night is also an experienced sound technician who should be able to resolve any technical issues quickly.

2. How long is each session?

Anything up to one hour.

3. How many people can take part?

If our quizmaster is running the call, he's limited to 300 guests on Zoom. If he's joining another company's call, there's no maximum number of participants. It's important to remember that everyone must have their microphones muted for others to hear/see the feed correctly. There might need to be an administrator in charge of muting participants in larger groups if it starts interrupting the performance flow.

4. Do guests need anything to participate?

Your guests only need a computer with internet access. For some rounds, it can be helpful if they have a mobile device and their laptop so they can take photos of the screen when images are displayed, but this isn't essential.

5. Is the show interactive?

The show is highly interactive; the host can read the comments in the chat window and answer any questions or repeat things if necessary.

6. How can this experience be customized?

The music quiz is entirely customizable. Depending on scheduling, our quiz compere ideally needs a week to put new material together for any bespoke requests on a case-by-case basis.

7. Can the show be pre-recorded?

With at least 24 hours' notice, this fun quiz can be pre-recorded. Potential clients need to inform the host about the presentation format and the number of video files required.
