Folk Music Sweden
Peter is recognized as Sweden’s foremost traditional player of the modern chromatic nyckelharpa, having twice won the title of World Champion. He earned the Zorn Silver Medal and the prestigious designation Riksspelman - Fiddler of the Realm - as a teenager in 1975, and he was honored with Sweden’s highest award for excellence in folk music, the Zorn Gold Medal, in 2010.
Peter and his nyckelharpa create an enchanting presence when performing. Pure magic. His music exemplifies a seamless connection between the past, present, and future.
Peter's technique is unparalleled. His extraordinarily precise playing features deep resonant tones, fluid cascades of ornaments and flourishes, giving the remarkable impression of multiple musicians playing simultaneously.
Rightly proud of his status in Swedish traditional music, Peter is continuously expanding the boundaries of nyckelharpa expression. Staying true to tradition, Peter also composes new tunes, which are quickly being embraced by contemporary nyckelharpa players. Once neglected and nearly forgotten in the 1940s and 50s, the modern chromatic nyckelharpa is now flourishing in Sweden and abroad, particularly in the USA and Japan.
