Taiko Drummers

Taiko Drummers are the UK's longest-running taiko ensemble and Europe's only professional touring company for this thrilling and energetic performing art. With over 1,000 performances across the UK, Japan, and Europe over the last decade, they've built a solid reputation for their gritty, passionate style, positioning themselves at the forefront of Taiko drumming in this region through their rigorous touring schedule.

The drummers showcase Taiko as a modern and theatrical performing art, featuring precise choreography, dramatic lighting, and a variety of costumes ranging from post-apocalyptic industrial to beautiful earthy silks. The concert is incredibly diverse: powerful rhythms on a range of instruments from small hand-held drums to the thunderous reverberations of the massive Odaiko big drum, delicate bamboo flute, soulful vocals, layers of percussive soundscapes, and innovative dance tightly integrated with the taiko drums.

Though the art form originated in Japan, these Taiko drummers are a completely Western group and perform with a very modern twist on the traditional folk art. In the last 12 months, they've played at 3 weddings in Thailand, China, and the UK, and can tailor the set to suit the client's needs. Previous tours have included a full-length theater concert, performing at prestigious venues such as London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, Gateshead Sage, Cardiff St. David's Hall, Nottingham Royal Concert Hall, Brighton Theatre Royal, Glasgow Pavilion Theatre, and Edinburgh Usher Hall, among others. The group also performs on outdoor stages at a variety of music festivals, produces commissions for large-scale multi-media events, has released a range of CDs and DVDs, and has appeared on TV programs such as the Brit Awards and BBC Last Night of the Proms.
