Capoeira Dancers
Capoeira Dancers are an international Capoeira group based in Rio and hosted by Mestre Celso, a student of the legendary Artur Emidio and the oldest Capoeira teacher in Rio. The Surrey-based group is run by his son, Professor Bicudo, who is also from Brazil.
Capoeira is a 500-year-old African martial art developed by slaves in Brazil. It has gained popularity in video games like Tekken and movies such as Warrior King. Celebrities like Charlize Theron and Wesley Snipes practice it. Join the social, spiritual, and cultural phenomenon that is Capoeira!
The group consists of 6 performers, including dancers and other artists who play instruments, sing, and clap along with the performance. For a group of 6 performers, the performance length is extended to between 10 – 25 minutes. Capoeira Dancers are also available to conduct workshops and lessons in schools.
Capoeira is a blend of fitness, acrobatics, self-defense, dance, and music. It has recently been popularized in 'Harry Potter,' 'Blade,' 'Ocean’s 12,' 'Mission Impossible 2,' 'Catwoman,' MTV Pop Music Videos, and even PlayStation games. This recent exposure has allowed Capoeira to inspire a wide range of students, even those previously uninterested in physical education.
