Inspired by Thor Heyerdahl’s daring expedition to sail a balsawood raft 4,300 miles from Peru to Polynesia, this cutting-edge team-building activity underscores that the seemingly impossible can be accomplished. Just as Heyerdahl silenced his critics by completing his journey in 101 days, participants in this activity will navigate their homemade boats across a lake, pool, or open sea!

Teams of 8 to 12 will need to choose a design and merge their individual talents to construct a seaworthy vessel from an improbable pile of building materials. By working together, they'll realize their daunting challenge is doable and discover that true leadership and brilliant ideas can come from the most unexpected sources.

Flat Out Afloat is a fun and rewarding team-building activity that can be tailored to focus on a variety of specific skills and issues, such as cross-functional teamwork, role behavior, leadership, and project management. With a series of tasks embedded in the activity, every team member has a specific and crucial role in ensuring the team stays afloat!
