Inspired by Thor Heyerdahl’s expedition to sail a balsawood raft 4,300 miles from Peru to Polynesia, this innovative team building activity sets out to remind participants that what may seem impossible can be achieved. As Heyerdahl completed his expedition in 101 days silencing his critics forever so the participants in this activity will complete their expedition across the lake, pool or open sea in their homemade boats!

Teams of 8 to 12 will have to select a design and combine their individual talents to build a seaworthy vessel from an unlikely pile of building materials. Through working together they will find that their impossible challenge is achievable and discover that true leadership and great ideas can often come from those you least expect.

Flat Out Afloat is a fun and rewarding team building activity that can be adapted to focus on a range of specific skills sets and issues such as: cross- functional teamwork, role behaviour, leadership and project management. With a range of tasks incorporated into the activity every team member has a specific and vital role to play in achieving the task and ultimately making sure that the team stays afloat on the water!
