Saxophonist Julian
Julian graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire in 1991 with honors in performance and teaching, specializing in Bassoon. He was then offered a teaching position at Sandwell MBA, along with a part-time role at Cheltenham Boys College.
During this time, he performed in various pit orchestras for musicals and shows, including the Royal Shakespeare Company. Julian also had a deep passion for the saxophone and in 1993, after hearing Kenny G for the first time, he became instantly hooked on the instrument, especially the soprano saxophone. Julian formed a band that became very popular in the Midlands area, playing at restaurants and prestigious corporate events by invitation.
Julian’s musical style can be described as easy listening “Crossover Classical/Pop/Smooth Jazz,” heavily influenced by the vocal group “Il Divo.”
Combining performance on the saxophone and teaching the clarinet and saxophone, Julian was able to make a living as a musician and teacher. After producing a couple of self-funded albums with producer and arranger Ty Unwin, a track called Silver was placed on the multiplatinum compilation album called Classic Chillout series by Sony in 2001. Subsequently, more tracks were commissioned from Julian over the next two years.
Frustrated by the lack of further success in the music industry after six years, Julian decided to enter BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT in 2009. He achieved second runner-up with nearly 700,000 public telephone votes and millions of YouTube hits.
A very special moment on the show for Julian was when the producers arranged for him to play with his idol Kenny G at the Royal Albert Hall. Kenny G presented Julian with his own signature model saxophone as a good luck gift.
Since then, Julian has toured many arenas and theaters, recorded with numerous Classical Stars including Julian Lloyd Webber and Paul Potts on the Classical Relief for Haiti Charity Single 'The Prayer'. He has performed for Prince Charles at Clarence House, was invited to play for the Prime Minister, and has attended many other prestigious charity events including ARK, THE RED CROSS, and RAYS OF SUNSHINE.
