The Edible Orchestra
This London-based Vegetable Orchestra is the UK's only ensemble dedicated to bringing you "Home Grown" entertainment. The orchestra is composed of pure handcrafted local produce. Showcasing a brass section of zucchini, squashes, peppers, and cassava roots, soaring winds featuring carrot recorders, and a banging percussion section including freshly carved pumpkins. The band performs classic famous songs through the ages with a "fresh" twist, such as "Greensleaves," Elvis Parsley's "Blue Swede Shoes," and Michael Jackson's hit "Billie Aubejean".
This group was founded over 3 years ago at the prestigious Hampton Court Flower Show for Tyrrell's Crisps. Since then, they have been part of many other food festivals and garden shows, including Goodwood Vintage Festival and the Autumn Show for the Royal Horticultural Society, as well as The London Jazz Festival. They have also expanded to work in schools and local community events.
The Edible Orchestra has appeared many times on national TV, most notably for the BBC on Room 101 and Countryfile, CBBC as an act in The Slammer, and ITV's "Let's Do Lunch" with Gino & Mel. The group has also been involved in some interesting musical collaborations, including a duet with recording artist Mika, covering his song "Celebrate" for an MSN viral video.
