Chicago-based jazz singer Typhanie has made her mark internationally as a rising star by diving into her true passion. Well-versed in a wide range of genres and influences, including jazz, funk, hip-hop, pop, and improvised freestyle, this soulful-voiced singer, bandleader, and songwriter has built a reputation as a fearless boundary-pusher and a natural-born frontwoman with impressive scatting skills and refined emcee abilities.

Since her Chicago debut over a decade ago, Typhanie has captivated audiences at renowned jazz clubs and major music festivals around the world. As an independent recording artist, Typhanie has released three standout CDs, garnering rave reviews from some of the world’s most respected music publications (including jazz authority DownBeat magazine) and even making it to the preliminary round of Grammy voting in the Best Jazz Vocal Album category.

An invitation to teach and perform in Moscow, Russia, helped kick-start Typhanie’s international solo career. She has played with some of Russia’s top jazz musicians, including saxophonist Oleg Kireyev and pianist Vladimir Nesterenko, and performed at Moscow’s finest jazz clubs.

JazzTimes magazine has described Typhanie’s vocal sound as a modern-day Sarah Vaughan with iridescent traces of Lena Horne. Others have compared her to Minnie Ripperton, Chaka Khan, Diana Krall, and Erykah Badu.
