Solo Singer Sherrita

Sherrita Duran is an American singer who has lived and worked in Italy for twenty years, and whose voice moves between gospel, soul, jazz and opera without ever sounding borrowed from one of them.

She trained as a soprano at the University of Southern California and began her professional life in Los Angeles, singing with the Los Angeles Opera at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and at the Mark Taper Forum. She toured Europe with the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers, the choir that carried African-American spirituals across the continent. Nine years in New York followed, between Broadway and opera houses, with appearances on Good Morning America, at the Tony Awards and on the Jay Leno Show.

Italy was a choice, not a stop. She has toured the stadiums with Zucchero, leading her own twenty-voice gospel choir at San Siro, the Circo Massimo, the Baths of Caracalla, the Olimpico in Turin and the Verona Arena. She has appeared twice at the Sanremo Festival — the most watched music event in the country — with Irama and years later with Adriano Celentano. She has sung in the opera houses of northern Italy, from the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo to the Teatro Coccia in Novara.

What a client books is a voice that scales. Sherrita performs as a soloist with piano, in a jazz trio, quartet or quintet built on twenty standards, with a five-piece soul and dance band, or with her gospel choir.
