The New York bamboo flute player is one of the very few non-Japanese people to receive the high-level Dai-Shi-Han (Grand Master) certificate. Starting off as a classical flute player, with a masters degree in Western flute and musicology from Queens College, he travelled to Japan to study the Japanese bamboo flute with grand masters and became one himself. He is now one of only around 100 shakuhachi music professionals in the world.
