Having been collected by a solider who had served in the Indian sector of the British Empire, the artefacts were eventually put into storage only to be discovered and lovingly restored by their current owner and curator. The collection of curious artefacts was discovered in 2009 and has had an extraordinary history. Rather than preserving the pieces like a museum, the curators have built a replica Victoriana circus side show case to display the curios at festivals, parties, weddings, corporate events, museums and much more besides.
Costumed in authentic Victorian design, this act looks, sounds and behaves like a freak show and will transport you back 120-odd years to the exciting and macabre age of Victorian England. The portable case containing the Victoriana artefacts from antiquity is a vibrant read and has beautifully ornate woodwork and brass work around it to replicate the opulence of the day.
While the curiosities are genuinely amazing, perhaps the most standout parts of this act are the performances given by the curator and other performers. What might easily be a staid act is instead a hugely dynamic, engaging and interactive event. Not afraid of the vaudevillian or theatrical, the performers have developed funny and curious characters who genuinely feel like the circus folk of Victorian England, touring their wagon around the country.
